Handle Accent

What kind of home paint is the least likely to cause nausea or headaches?

I would really like to paint my room myself rather than have it professionally done, and am a bit concerned about the fumes causing nausea and headaches. I’m undergoing chemo and am a bit more prone to nausea than before. I can handle doing normal painting for my art, but in a whole room it can be more overwhelming. Advice on brands would be great.

Also, how do you paint horizontal stripes on the wall? I want two stripes in accent colors, and then I’m going to paint a mural in another section. Thanks in advance.

Benjamin Moore also has a selection of low VOC paints which, I believe, can be tinted almost any color. Your local dealer will be able to give you all the info you need. Good luck to you!

As for the horizontal stripes: If you’ve got a laser level (they’re great and I actually picked one up at the dollar store the other day!) or a regular level, mark two straight pencil lines across the wall, as wide as you want the stripe. Then, carefully run a strip of painter’s tape (not masking tape — too sticky) along each line. Paint between the tapes (make sure you keep pressing the tape as you go to keep a sharp edge that the paint won’t bleed through) with your contrasting color. Remove the tape and, voila! Should be perfect!
