My subwoofer is broken!!?

Hi i have a subwoofer hooked up to an 600W max amp. i was playing it the other day then heard some distortion, not when i play my sub i hear like a rattling/sparking noise comeing from the sub almost as if its trying to work, also if i apply a little pressure on the bottom of the sub it does work…. ive checked the cables ect and fuses and they seem fine… it is a ported enclosure. Also on the magnet at the bottom their is like a little grille, i have smelt this and i dont know if is smells burnt or just like a fusty smell. but the sub is quite old (>1year). Could it be because the enclosure at the top is not allowing air to move freeley?

It could be many things. Sounds like the sub is blown.

Too much power to the sub, the wrong enclosure for the sub or improper gain settings (falls under too much power if clipping) are a few causes.
