Wma Wav

Is it possible to create a WMA encoded WAV in a similar fashion to that of a RIFF-WAV?

When using DivX to convert videos, i must encode the audio so that it is not a huge file; but it has to be in WAV format because i use (like everyone else) VirtualDub. Currently i use CDex to create MP3 encoded WAVs (or RIFF-WAVs) (more info – http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/terms/riff-wav.cfm). But because WMA has better compression and sound quality (relative to size, anyway), i would like to use it in place of the MP3 codec that is being used.

So, is it possible to create a WMA encoded WAV file?

Thanks in advance!

That’s a very complicated question for a simple task.

You’ve got your terminology all mixed up. The way you put it, a WMA is a compressed WAV. MP3 is encoded WAV, OGG is encoded WAV.

WAV files are (typically) unprocessed raw audio data with a simple header describing bits, rate etc.

I don’t know VirtualDub, but if it’s half decent any type of audio file you drop in there will be decoded and used. So right now you drop an MP3 into it and it gets decoded, I’m betting a WMA will too.
